Give callers a clear route to the right conversation
Use AI call screening to ask who is calling, what they need and whom they want to reach. Aria follows your instructions for routine questions, messages and configured transfers, helping your team organize requests before choosing the next step.
Illustrative screening request from a caller who wants a named employee.
Caller: Could I speak with the owner? It's about some work you did for me.
Aria: May I take your name and a brief message about the work so the team knows what you need?
The request is identified as an existing-customer follow-up, without verifying identity or judging the caller's priority.

The FTC recommends independently checking unfamiliar requests for sensitive information through a known contact route. A screening conversation should support your staff process, not be treated as identity verification.

Write a short, courteous screening flow
List the requests that reach your team
Separate ordinary questions, new enquiries, existing-customer messages and requests for named staff. Avoid rules that assume an unfamiliar caller is unimportant.
Choose a few opening questions
Start with the caller's name, reason for calling and intended contact. Ask for a callback number when a message is the appropriate next step.
Match each request to an available route
Supply the information Aria may answer and the configured contacts it may try. Choose message taking before a transfer when the intended person is known to be unavailable.
Test the caller who does not fit
Include an unexpected request and someone who prefers not to discuss details. Check that the flow remains courteous and gives them an appropriate staff next step.
Ask enough to choose the next step
Find the purpose before adding questions
A new customer, an existing client and a supplier may all ask for the owner. Start with a broad reason for calling so the next question fits the request.
Use the caller's requested contact
Ask which employee or team the caller needs. Your instructions can define an appropriate configured contact or a message-taking route when that person is unavailable.
Leave room for an unfamiliar request
Some callers will not fit the categories you expected. Keep the questions brief and offer a staff message path instead of pressing for unnecessary details or making a judgment about their importance.
Make screening useful for callers and staff
Separate enquiry types without a long interview
Knowing whether the caller wants a new service, an update or a particular person can be enough to choose a sensible next step. Your team decides which questions actually help.
Give staff useful context for follow-up
Review the contact details and available call records before returning a message. A captured reason for calling can help staff prepare; a transfer does not include a promised live introduction or briefing.

Questions about AI call screening
Does screening verify a caller's identity?
No. A supplied name, phone number or explanation is not proof of identity. Keep identity checks, account access and sensitive disclosures with your approved staff process.
Will Aria block spam and recognize VIP callers?
This page describes asking about the caller's purpose and following your routing instructions. It does not promise a spam-blocking product, automatic VIP lists or fraud detection.
What if the caller does not want to explain the request?
Keep the questions limited and use your approved message or staff-contact route. Test that situation so a legitimate caller is not trapped in a repeated interview.
Can staff receive a summary before answering a transfer?
Do not assume a warm introduction or pre-connection briefing. The configured transfer connects directly to the destination; available call records can support a separate review or follow-up process.
Can Aria decide whether a lead is worth our time?
Aria can ask your chosen enquiry questions. Your team should decide whether the request fits the business and what to offer. Capturing answers is not the same as qualifying a sale or accepting a client.
